Meet the Dev!
Howdy!

Hi! In-case you missed it, I'm Kinsey (She/ Her); Games Developer and aspiring Producer.

I've been designing and playing all kinds of games since I was only four.

I want to help people create games that recapture that childlike feeling of adventure that

only games can create.

What is your ethos behind gamedev?

I have major interest in all of the different pieces that make up a game - The psychology of

User Experience; the emotional feel of Sound Design; The nitty gritty of Game Balance: you name it -

It's all fascinating to me!

I love games that create a window into the creators' point of view, letting you experience a world with fresh eyes all over again. When producing and designing games, I always want me and my team to capture this feeling the best we can, by putting little parts of ourselves into the games we make.

What is your favourite part of gamedev?

One of the best parts of creating games is working with and around so many other unique and talented people.

Teamwork is the backbone of game development and I try to embody that in all my projects.

Outside of gamedev, I can come off as introverted. In reality, I simply prefer to observe and listen to people and what they have to say. However, when it comes to games development, a switch is flipped.

When working in a team I like to take the initiative and make sure that all sides are communicating with each other and on the same page. I will proactively talk to the team and try to understand their concerns and worries, or maybe just pick their brain for their thoughts and knowledge on games and their hobbies. People are incredibly unique and interesting and always have something to teach you!

Okay, so you like to make games. What else?

All healthy gamedevs aught to keep a few non-video gaming hobbies. I'm no exception! To name a few:

  • Collecting Music

    • Hip-Hop, EDM, Psychedelic Rock & D&B are my jams.

  • Board Games

    • Ticket to Ride, Arboretum, Dominion, Diskworld

  • Making 3D art

  • Horror Movies

    • I like video editing, too!

  • Running tabletop game nights

    • Faves include Vampire: The Masquerade, Call of Cthulu, Cyberpunk RED

Of course, you can see my 3D Portfolio here, too. I don't intend to follow this hobby as a fulltime career path, but It does give me a lot of valuable insight into how artists on my team think and feel.

My interests are also pretty varied. From Astronomy to Mixology, Computer Hardware to Baking. I've picked up a fair amount!

If you hire me, let me tell you, I will bring in the most banger brown butter cookies you've ever eaten. Promise.

Favourite Video Game?

This is a quantum question for me - the answer changes every time you ask. I just love too many games.

Here's a few all-time bangers, in no particular order:

  • Derek Yu's Spelunky

  • Team Fortress 2 (All of Valve's output, really)

  • Rainworld

  • Dishonoured 2

  • Disco Elysium

And thousands more. These just came to my head as I was writing.
